Waushara County Inmate Fails To Return To Jail

Waushara County Sheriff’s officials are looking for a 27-year-old North Fond du Lac woman who failed to return to jail after using her Huber privileges last Monday. Emily Faber was serving a 6 month sentence for theft and a 12 month sentence for failing to report to jail. Anyone with information on her whereabouts is urged to call the Waushara County Sheriff’s Department at (920) 787-3221.

Waupun ATV Ordinance

The Waupun Common Council last week came up short of the votes needed to pass an ordinance allowing the use of ATV’s on all city streets. Another effort will be made next month. Mayor Julie Nickel cast a tie-breaking vote in favor of bringing the ordinance back for a final vote next month. If approved, ATV’s would be able to operate on all city streets except county and state highways or connecting highways with a speed limit above 35-miles an hour.

Call 911

Ripon Area Fire District Chief Tim Saul urges residents to call 9-1-1 if they have a fire or an emergency requiring the department to respond. He points out that when people call the fire station’s phone line after hours it does ring through to his phone, but that’s not always the quickest way to get a response. He says if it’s an emergency call 9-1-1 or you need the fire department, but it’s not an emergency call the police department’s non-emergency line at (920) 748-2888. “Either way calling 9-1-1 to get us out the door because that’s we what we have to do we just can’t just pick up and go to your house without being dispatched so I give the example of I’m sitting at a football game at the high school someone calls the station phone and says my house is on fire this truly really happened.” Most of the information about your residence will come up on a monitor for the 9-1-1 dispatcher when you call, which saves time and will get a quicker response.

Food Insecurity

More people are going hungry in Ripon than the general public is aware of. Ripon Food Pantry Director Amy Pollesch says they serve over 400 families a month who can’t afford or don’t have access to the food they need. But she says the community responds very well when they are aware of the problem such as when the Pantry supplied kids with weekend snack packs over the summer. “The food insecurity in Ripon is very well hidden because we rally so well as a community. So when we see a need like that that’s when we are so incredibly on fire to get out there and meet it because can, because our community is so generous.” Ripon Area United Way Board of Directors President Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says more signs of the problem are that over 40 percent of the kids in Ripon’s two elementary schools qualify for free or reduced lunch which is based on the financial situation in their home. The United Way provides funding for several food programs the Pantry operates.

Boys And Girls Club Tri County Hosting Community Meals

The Boys & Girls Club of the Tri-County Area will be serving Thanksgiving and Holiday Dinners at the club over the coming weeks. Ashley Bartol of the Club says people who need a meal or just want the companionship are welcome. “We work with different businesses especially for our holiday program the kids usually put on some type of performance or something like that they’ve been working on.” Both meals will be held in their gymnasium at the Club in Berlin with the Thanksgiving Community meal on Monday, November 25th and the Christmas Community meal on Thursday, December 19th.  For more information on either meal call the club at (920) 361-2717.

City Of Ripon Employee Honored For 41 Years Of Service

The Ripon Common Council this past week honored a city employee who has worked for the city nearly 41 years. They unanimously passed a proclamation honoring Barb Mashack for her service. She began working for the city on December 1st of 1978. It was remarked that the 41 years with the city may be the longest tenure for any employee the city has ever had. Mashack was not able to attend last week’s Council meeting. Mayor Gary Will said they would take time to honor her prior to a future Council meeting.
