Community Partnership Awards

16 November 2019 News

Fond du Lac, Wis. (November 5, 2019): On October 31, the City of Fond du Lac Police Department hosted their annual awards banquet during which they presented a Community Partnership Award to three Fond du Lac residents for being vital community partners. Those awardees were Dean and Sandy Osborn and Joseph Braun, executive director.
Several years ago, the City of Fond du Lac Police Department established a plan to significantly increase the capabilities of the SWAT team, the safety of the officers on that team, and the safety of any civilians involved in tactical situations. By early 2019, much of the plan had been accomplished, including acquiring industry-leading equipment and training. One important goal had yet to be fulfilled – implementing tactical emergency medical services (TEMS) on the SWAT team. TEMS are important because it allows the SWAT team to have highly trained paramedics on the scene of situations to intervene when life-saving measures are required. The City of Fond du Lac’s plan projected the addition of four TEMS onto the SWAT team.
Following a community presentation by Chief Lamb, Joseph Braun, executive director of the Fond du Lac Area Foundation, arranged a meeting with the Osborn family to further discuss TEMS. As avid supporters of law enforcement, the Osborn family put their belief in community’s safety on display by offering to fund the TEMS program with a gift from the Osborn Family Fund.
“I am grateful to be able to connect the City of Fond du Lac Police Department with Mr. and Mrs. Osborn to accomplish an unmet need that we had in our community. Hearing what this special collaboration is going to be able to do for the men and women who are members of the SWAT team and the community at large is astounding. I am continually honored to be able to connect people who care with causes that matter.”
The City of Fond du Lac Police Department currently has three of the four TEMS paramedics selected, trained, equipped, and embedded on the SWAT team; the fourth addition is forthcoming.
