Appeals Court Prevents Violent Sex Offender Placement In Eldorado

Fond du Lac County and the Town of Eldorado have won a battle to prevent the placement of a violent sex offender from Racine County in the community. The District II Court of Appeals Wednesday determined Preston Rintamaki’s petition for supervised release was still pending prior to the Racine County Court ordering placement in Fond du Lac County. Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney hopes that decision and a bill awaiting the Governor’s signature will end out-of-county placements of violent sex offenders. “The clarification in that bill as well as this decision should really eliminate any of these out-of-county placements.” The 49-year-old Rintamaki was convicted of second degree sexual assault of a child in Racine County in December of 1991 and was committed as a sexually violent person in June of 1999 also in Racine County.
