The Packers are off today before starting preparations on Wednesday for Sunday night’s game against the Chiefs in Kansas City. The Packers, 6-1, are coming off a 42-24 victory at home Sunday over the Oakland Raiders. The 5-2 Chiefs defeated the Broncos 30-6 on the road last Thursday night but in the process lost star quarterback Patrick Mahomes when he dislocated a knee cap in the second quarter. Mahomes’ is not expected to play Sunday and will most likely miss the next couple of weeks. The Packers will face backup quarterback Matt Moore.
In Monday Night Football, the Patriots remain unbeaten as they won on the road against the Jets, 33-0. New England improves to 7-0 while New York falls to 1-5. Tom Brady was 31-45 for 249 yards and a touchdown to Phillip Dorsett. He also was intercepted once. The Patriots defense dominated as Sam Darnold was just 11-32 for 86 yards and was picked off four times.
The Astros host the Nationals tonight in game one of the World Series. Gerrit Cole is set to throw the first pitch. He led the majors with 326 strikeouts, was second to teammate Justin Verlander with 20 wins and topped the AL with a 2.50 ERA. He also is 19-0 in his last 25 starts. That includes 3-0 in the playoffs so far, allowing one earned run in 22 2/3 innings while fanning 32. Cole goes against the Nationals Max Scherzer, who was 11-7 in the regular season with a 2.92 ERA. He’s 2-0 in this post season with a 1.80 ERA. First pitch is at 7:08 CDT.
Michigan State tops the men’s Top 25 AP basketball preseason poll. The Spartans are ranked first followed by Kentucky, Kansas, Duke and Louisville to round out top five. Florida, Maryland, Gonzaga, North Carolina and Villanova round out the top 10.
