Aaron Rodgers had his best game by far under new Packers coach Matt LaFleur, throwing for 429 yards and five touchdowns and running for another as Green Bay beat the Oakland Raiders 42-24 on Sunday.  Rodgers completed 25 of 31 passes to eight different targets and finished with the first perfect passer rating of his career, leading LaFleur’s offense to a season high in points.

Even with top target Davante Adams sidelined for the third straight game with turf toe, Rodgers threw for his most touchdowns in a game since Sept. 28, 2015, against the Chiefs.

Derek Carr finished 22-for-28 for 293 yards, two touchdowns and two costly turnovers for the Raiders (3-3), who lost their eighth straight against Green Bay (6-1), dating back to 1990. Most of Carr’s completions were to tight ends, with Darren Waller hauling in 8 catches for 126 yards and two touchdowns.

Raiders rookie Josh Jacobs ran for a 42-yard gain on the opening drive. He finished with 124 yards on 21 carries and has 554 rushing yards this season.

The Packers play the Chiefs at Kansas City on Sunday.

Elsewhere in the NFC North, the Vikings beat the Lions 42-30 in Detroit, to improve to 5-2 while the Lions drop to 2-3-1.  New Orleans won at Chicago 36-25 as the Bears slip to 3-3.

Last night Dallas won at home over Philadelphia 37-10.

Tonight, New England plays the Jets at New York.

 

After losing 24-23 at Illinois Saturday on a field goal as time expired, the Badgers dropped from 6th to 13th  in the latest AP rankings.  Wisconsin plays at Ohio State on Saturday. Alabama is ranked number one  again this week followed by LSU, Ohio State, Clemson and Oklahoma.  Penn State, Florida, Notre Dame, Auburn and Georgia round the top ten.

 

The World Series between the Nationals and the Astros begins Tuesday night in Houston.  The Astros beat the Yankees Saturday night, 6-4, to take that series in six games.

 

The Milwaukee Bucks have signed forward Jemerrio Jones. Jones, 24, played six games last season for the Los Angeles Lakers and averaged 4.5 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.2 steals in 23.8 minutes per game. He also appeared in 47 games (six starts) for the South Bay Lakers of the NBA G League and averaged 9.4 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 24.7 minutes per game. Jones was traded to Washington during the offseason and waived by the Wizards on Oct. 16.

 

Meanwhile, the Bucks have requested waivers on Rayjon Tucker, Trevor Lacey and Jemerrio Jones. Tucker appeared in three preseason contests and averaged 3.3 points in 9.7 minutes per game. Lacey and Jones were signed on Oct. 17 and Oct. 19, respectively, and did not appear in any preseason games.

 

 

In women’s college volleyball Saturday, Grinnell defeated Ripon College 3-0.  The scores were 25-9, 25-3 and 25-16.

 

In men’s college soccer on Saturday, Grinnell College beat Ripon College 6-1.

In women’s college soccer on Saturday, Grinnell College beat Ripon College 3-2.
