Hometown Broadcasting Sports Friday 10/18/19

18 October 2019 Sports

The Green Bay Packers practiced for the first time this week in preparation for Sunday’s game against the Oakland Raiders.  The team was shorthanded during Thursday’s practice at Ray Nitschke Field so much so that Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur decided to turn the final period of practice into a walk through due to the injuries. Eight Packers players did not practice including three of the team’s top receivers.

Davante Adams continues to miss practice due to a turf toe injury he suffered in the fourth quarter against the Philadelphia Eagles three weeks ago but his future may be optimistic. Adams said his toe feels “a million times better” than it did after the game plus he didn’t rule out the possibility of playing on Sunday against the Raiders.

Packers receivers Geronimo Allison and Marquez Valdes-Scantling also did not practice on Thursday.  Allison is in the concussion protocol and Valdes-Scantling missed practice with an ankle/knee injury. The team had six receivers practice and only four of them are on the active roster.  That includes receiver Ryan Grant who was signed by the team on Wednesday.  LaFleur said the plan is for  Grant to play against the Raiders.  The Packers defense was without defensive lineman Kenny Clark (calf/back), cornerback Tramon Williams (knee) and safety Darnell Savage (ankle) during Thursday’s practice.

The Packers-Raiders game can be heard on 102.3, The Bug, with the pregame starting at 10:00 and the kickoff at noon.

In Thursday Night Football the Chiefs won the game at Denver 30-6 but lost the services of quarterback Patrick Mahomes.  Reports say Mahomes suffered a patella dislocation and would be lost for at least three weeks going down down with the injury with 10:00 left in the second quarter following a fourth-down QB sneak. Mahomes was tended to by trainers on the field before walking off with them into the Chiefs locker room. The team quickly ruled him out with a knee injury. NFL Network’s James Palmer reported Mahomes was taken for X-rays at Empower Field at Mile High. It was determined that Mahomes suffered a patella dislocation and will undergo an MRI on Friday to determine if there is any ligament damage.  Chiefs coach Andy Reid did not have any update on Mahomes following the victory, telling reporters that the team will wait to offer a “further evaluation” on the injury. The coach said he did not regret calling the QB sneak.

ESPN’s Adam Shefter said Mahomes would miss at least three weeks.  Veteran journeyman qauarterback Matt Moore came in with the Chiefs leading 10-6.  Moore led Kansas City on eight more drives with six ending in a punt, one in a field goal and one in a Tyreek Hill 57-yard receiving touchdown.  The 12-year veteran finished 10-19 for 117 yards and a TD.
