The Green Bay Packers got back on the practice field on Wednesday inside the Don Hutson Center. Re-joining the team was star receiver Davante Adams.  Adams ran routes, caught passes and officially practiced for the first time since suffering his turf toe injury on Sept. 26.  When asked what he needs to see in order to be officially cleared to play on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers, he said it will depend on the Packers medical staff. Adams was officially listed as limited on Wednesday. Since he was injured in week four against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Packers are 4-0 and have gotten a number of players involved during his absence.  Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers did not practice on Wednesday because he was resting a sore knee said he has noticed Adams progression.  The Packers will travel to L.A. on Friday ahead of Sunday’s game at 3:25 against the Chargers. The game will be broadcast on CBS.  It can also be heard on 102.3 FM, The Bug, with the pregame starting at 1:00.

In Thursday Night Football, San Francisco travels to Arizona.  The 49ers are 8-0 while the Cardinals are 3-4-1..

The Washington Nationals are World Series champions. Howie Kendrick hit a go-ahead homer in the seventh inning as the Nationals came back and beat the Houston Astros in seven games, 6-2, to win the franchise’s first championship.  In the process, the Nationals completed a clean sweep for road clubs in a first-of-its kind Fall Classic. Stephen Strasburg, who was the winning pitcher in Game 2 and Game 6 while posting a 2.51 ERA, was named the Willie Mays World Series Most Valuable Player.  Houston scored single runs in the second and fifth innings to lead 2-0 going into the seventh when the Nationals scored three runs to go ahead for good.   Washington starter Max Scherzer gave up two runs on seven hits in five innings. Pat Corbin picked up the win in relief.  Astros starter Zach Greinke gave up two runs on two hits ove 6 1/3 innings before giving way to Will Harris in the seventh. Harris gave up two runs including Kendrick’s homer and took the loss.  The Nationals would add to two more runs in the ninth.

Kemba Walker had 21 of his 32 points in the second half and the Boston Celtics rallied to beat the Milwaukee Bucks 116-105 on Wednesday night. Jayson Tatum added 25 points, Gordon Hayward had 21 points and 10 rebounds, and Marcus Smart finished with 19 points and six assists.  Milwaukee, now 2-2,  dominated in the first half, leading 19. But the Celtics, 3-1, responded in the third quarter, using a 26-7 run over the final 6:38 of the period to take an 80-76 edge into the fourth. Boston kept that momentum, beginning the final period with an 11-4 run to open a 91-80 lead.  Khris Middleton led the Bucks with 26 points. Giannis Antetokounmpo had 22 points and 14 rebounds, but the reigning MVP lost his composure late, first picking up a hard foul on Smart and then a technical foul in the final minute.  Antetokounmpo had his third straight double-double and Milwaukee had a 37-8 edge in bench scoring. The Bucks play at Orlando Friday night.

Wisconsin lawmakers are preparing a bill that would allow college athletes to hire agents and profit from their names starting in 2023. The bill is similar to California’s Fair Pay to Play Act signed into law last month. The Wisconsin proposal would make it illegal for state universities to revoke an athlete’s scholarship or eligibility for taking money through endorsements, autograph signings or social media advertising.  The bill also would ban the NCAA from penalizing schools for allowing student athletes to be compensated for use of their name, image or likeness. The Wisconsin State Journal reports Republican Rep. Dave Murphy of Greenville is spearheading the bill. Murphy wrote a letter Tuesday to UW Athletics Director Barry Alvarez, saying Wisconsin “cannot afford to sit this discussion out.” Alvarez has spoken out against changing student athlete compensation rules.
