Hometown Broadcasting Sports Friday 10/11/19

11 October 2019 Sports

Green Bay Packers receiver Davante Adams did not practice on Thursday during the team’s open session on Clarke Hinkle Field. The Packer star receiver continues to miss time due to a toe injury he suffered in the fourth quarter against the Philadelphia Eagles. Adams called his injury “major” and stressed the plan is for him to not rush returning to the field. “I can’t really tell you when I’m going to play. I don’t know. It doesn’t feel how I want it to feel at the moment but we definitely have time so will just play this thing.”

Adams said he has a torn ligament in his right big toe but it does not require surgery.  He added he has continued to make progress since suffering the injury but at this point the day-to-day life activities have gotten easier but it doesn’t sound like he’s much closer to getting back on the field.

Thursday’s update on Adams’ injury is much different than what initially came out following the Thursday night game on Sept. 26.  NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Sept. 27 that Adams injury was “not believed to be serious.” Then Monday, Sept. 30, Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur said Adams was “day-to-day.”  The Packers defeated the Cowboys Sunday 34-24 without Adams on the field.

Also not practicing on Thursday was cornerback Tony Brown (hamstring).

Running back Jamaal Williams practiced on Thursday.  He suffered a concussion in the Philadelphia game and did not play at Dallas.

The Packers host the Lions Monday night.  The pregame starts at 5:00 with the kickoff at 7:15 on 102.3, The Bug.

In Thursday Night Football, the Patriots won at home, 35-14, over the Giants.  New England improves to 6-0 while New York falls to 2-4.

The Houston Astros advance to the ALCS after beating Tampa Bay 6-1 Thursday night in Houston.  Gerrit Cole pitched eight dominant innings, giving up a run on two hits while striking out 10 and walking two.  Michael Brantley and Jose Altuve homered for the Astros as he and Alex Bregman drove in two runs each.

The Astros will play the Yankees Saturday night in New York to the open the ALCS.

The NLCS begins tonight in St. Louis where the Cardinals host the Nationals.  Anibal Sanchez starts for Washington against Miles Mikolas of St. Louis.
