Hartford Man Convicted Of Sex Trafficking In Dodge County

A 46-year-old Hartford man has pled guilty to a federal charge of sex trafficking for forcing four women into prostitution at two strip clubs in Dodge County. According to the federal indictments Christopher Childs forced the women to dance at the clubs for no pay and had them perform sex acts for money, which he then took. Among the places the prostitution occurred at were strip clubs in Lebanon and Clyman that are now closed. Childs will be sentenced next May. The charge he pleaded to carries a penalty of 15 years to life in prison.  

Waupun Fire Department Hosting Open House Tonight

As part of their celebration of Fire Prevention Week the Waupun Fire Department will host a Community Services Open House from 5 to 8 pm tonight. The Department will also be doing school and daycare visits. The theme for the week is “Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. Plan and Practice Your Escape!” The National Fire Protection Association® is the official sponsor of Fire Prevention Week. According to the Association in 2017 fire departments in the U.S. responded to 357,000 home fires that resulted in 2,630 deaths and 10,600 injuries. Flood Insurance Recommended

Fond du Lac County Communications and Emergency Management Director Bobbi Hicken recommends that those living in flood-prone areas get flood insurance. She says as this past week’s flooding demonstrates those who live near rivers or waterbodies that overflow their banks and shores during heavy rains can suffer damage to their homes and particularly basements. “I highly encourage people to get flood insurance unfortunately it is somewhat expensive. But if you have a home that does flood and has flooded a couple of times it is going to be something that you’re going to need for protection.” Three to six inches of rain feel in some areas last week on grounds that were already saturated.

Emergency Funding Available For Furnace Repair Or Replacement

The Weatherization Director for ADOCAP says no-cost emergency funding is available to replace or repair furnaces for those who are income eligible in Fond du Lac, Green Lake, and Winnebago Counties. Jason VanderVeld says for whatever reason your furnace might not work properly those who qualify can get emergency funding to replace or repair their furnace or heating system. “If you own your home if you are on a fixed income if you are income eligible for these programs you are also to have your heating system repaired potentially replace if it has been from catastrophic flooding damage or anything like and cannot be repaired at no cost to you as well.” For more information call ADVOCAP’s Oshkosh Office at (920) 426-0150.

Deadline For Service Academy Appointments Friday

Congressman Glenn Grothman’s office is reminding students the deadline for applying for a service academy nomination through his office is Friday. Members of Congress can nominate candidates for appointment to four of the five U.S. service academies. That includes the U.S. Military Academy, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, and Merchant Marine Academy. The U.S. Coast Guard Academy does not require a congressional nomination for appointment. Applications are available at Congressman Grothman’s website.

FVWDB Elects New Officers

The Fox Valley Workforce Development Board has elected four leaders from the public and private sector to serve as officers on the board for a one-year term. Jason Hendricks of J.F. Ahern of Fond du Lac will chair the board. Brian Kaminske who is with the Waupaca Foundry in Waupaca will be vice chair. Laura Biehn of Sargento Foods in Hilbert will be the board’s secretary. Dale Walker of Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton will serve as treasurer and will chair the board’s finance committee. Aimmee Hostettler who works for Grande Cheese in Fond du Lac is the immediate past chair of the board.

Holiday Wine Walk Sold Out Quickly 

Tickets for the Holiday Wine Walk in Ripon sold out quickly after they became available last month. Ripon Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jason Mansmith says they were sold out in a little over two weeks and they do have a waiting list. “16 Days, 550 tickets, pretty impressive and we have a waiting list of about 55 right now so if anybody would drop off from being able to make that Wine Walk and they call us and let us know we will go through that list and start seeing if people are interested in those tickets.” To get on the waiting list call (920) 748-6764. During the Wine Walk, businesses will become “tasting rooms” where attendees may sample up to 20 different wines throughout the evening. The event will take place from 5:30 to 8:30 pm on November 1st.
