Weatherization Program Helps With Energy Savings

ADVOCAP is partnering with Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance to provide financing for weatherization in eligible households in Fond du Lac, Green Lake, and Winnebago Counties. Jason VanderVelden is the Weatherization Director for ADVOCAP. He says they do have to verify income and eligibility but can provide free assistance to make homes energy efficient. “We specialize in older houses if you have needs for wall insulation, attic insulation, insulation in your basement eliminating cold air and drafts. Those are all things we can do a home, the construction of it.” He says basically you are receiving a grant and it can be used to improve your heating system or replace appliances like water heaters, refrigerators and freezers with more energy efficient appliances. VanderVelden says typically people who have the weatherization done save about $500 a year on energy costs.  It starts with a professional evaluation of your home. It would be located in front of Dick’s Sporting Goods and Petsmart on Washburn Avenue. The commission’s vote was by a narrow margin. The next step is getting the commission’s approval for a building permit.
