Fall River Man Bound Over For Trial On Eighth OWI Charge
A 45-year-old Fall River man suspected of an eighth Operating While Intoxicated offense has been bound over for trial in Columbia County court. A Sheriff’s deputy was called to testify Wednesday during the preliminary hearing for Michael Ormosen. Ormosen is suspected of having two drinks at a Fall River bar before hopping on his motorcycle. He then accelerated the bike into a parked car. The bartender who served him is the owner of that vehicle. Ormosen then fled the scene, but was picked up later at his home. He will be arraigned on December 11th.
State Unemployment Rate Up A Fourth Straight Month
For the fourth straight month the unemployment rate in Wisconsin has risen. The state’s Department of Workforce Development Thursday said September’s rate was 3.2 percent slightly more than the 3.1percent rate in August. The rate in September of 3.2 percent was also two-tenths of a percent ahead of where it was a year ago. It still is below the National jobless rate of 3.5 percent. Wisconsin gained 1,900 private sector jobs between August and September. The state is also up 12,300 private sector jobs over the same point last year.

Congress Avenue Bridge Closing
The state’s Department of Transportation tells us the Congress Avenue Bridge in Oshkosh will be closed Monday through Friday of next week and again on Monday, October 28th to vehicle and marine traffic. That will give crews the chance to do maintenance on the bridge’s grid deck. The bridge will be closed those days from 7 am to 3 pm. Drivers will be able to use the Wisconsin Street lift bridge to cross the Fox River in Oshkosh.
Former Congressman Tom Petri Honored By FDL County Republican Party
Former 6th District Congressman Tom Petri was honored by fellow Fond du Lac County Republicans last night with the Scott McCallum Lifetime Achievement Award. The award is named after former Governor Scott McCallum who rose through the ranks of the County Party became a State Senator, Lieutenant Governor and then Governor. Rohn Bishop chairs the County GOP Party. He says Petri had a similar story during his political career. “He was a member of the County Party and served in the Wisconsin State Senate before ultimately getting elected to the House of Representatives and he served as our Congressman for 38 years.” The award was presented to Petri during the County Party’s annual Reagan Night celebration in Fond du Lac a fundraiser for the local party. McCallum and former Governor Scott Walker were among those on hand for the celebration.
Fox World Travel Insurance License Revoked Last Month
Among the enforcement actions the state’s Office of Commissioner of Insurance performed last month was revoking the insurance license of Fox World Travel in Oshkosh. The company allegedly failed to name a Wisconsin Designated Responsible Licensed Producer and failed to respond to inquiries from the Commissioner’s office.
Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services Offers Outreach Services Too
The Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services have their main shelter in Oshkosh, but they do have outreach services as well. “So we have advocates that meet with people who either don’t want to come to shelter or are preparing to leave their abuser or they have already left their abuser and they just want additional support.” Program Director Kari Bellile says their outreach services include safety planning, one-to-one support services, legal advocacy and even a youth team that works with children between the ages of four and 19. They also provide services out of Federated Church in Green Lake, but have an advocate that will work with people in Berlin, Princeton or Markesan if it is difficult for people to get to the church. Ripon Senior Activity Center Halloween Party
The Ripon Senior Activity Center will be holding a Halloween Party on Halloween- Thursday, October 31st at Miller’s Tavern. It will run from 6 to 9 pm and the Markesan Resident Home is sponsoring it. Center Executive Director Noreen Johnson says there will be food, a costume contest and it’s free except for whatever drinks you may order. Food will include pulled chicken.
