New Pavilion At Murray Park Would Also Benefit Ripon Community

A group vying for the Lloyd Mitchell estate donation to the City of Ripon saw a need in the community and has built support for their proposal to build a new pavilion at Murray Park. Tom Moniz, Greg Dragolovich, and Bill Stollfuss committed significant time to the proposal for the two-story pavilion. Moniz says the city has a gem in Murray Park, which has six baseball fields and can host baseball tournaments that will bring visitors to the community who will spend their money in hotels, restaurants and other businesses. According to one study 39 people per tournament team generate about $7,000 in economic impact per tournament day. But he says beyond that the current pavilion is a single use pavilion with a crumbling infrastructure that needs to be fixed. “So what we would like to do is create a multi-use pavilion up there that not only serves the needs of the baseball fields and provides enhanced concession areas and things for game days, but also provides overhangs for covered seating, replaces the cement, takes care of the safety hazards the cracks, the whole nine yards.” Moniz says the Mitchell donation would cover the cost of the new pavilion and they could start on construction this fall and have it ready to go for the baseball season next summer.
