A 44-year-old Montello man is facing charges for allegedly driving drunk and hitting a parked vehicle and a grocery store in Ripon Wednesday night. Police say they received multiple reports shortly after 8:30 about a pickup truck that had struck a parked vehicle in the 300 Block of East Fond du Lac Street and left the scene. Callers also reported the truck left the road in the 100 Block of East Fond du Lac Street and was near the Market Fresh grocery store. Officers found the truck partially parked on the sidewalk on the south side of East Fond du Lac Street. The driver was slumped over the steering wheel. When officers roused the man the truck accelerated rapidly and went through the parking lot striking the North side wall of the grocery store. While officers tried to remove the man from the truck, the vehicle rolled back into the road and nearly hit officers and a patrol vehicle. The man was removed from the truck and was provided medical attention. He was arrested and cited for operating while under the influence first offense, hit and run, operating left of center, and for having open intoxicants in a motor vehicle. Police were assisted at the scene by the Ripon Guard Ambulance Service.
