Fitzgerald Announces Run For Congress
State Senator Scott Fitzgerald has announced his candidacy for the 5th Congressional District seat. The State Senate Majority Leader was first elected to the Senate in 1994. The Republican lawmaker from Juneau says he wants to be a conservative voice for Wisconsin’s Fifth. “Washington is a mess. For too long, liberals and the elite have ignored the needs of working-class people. President Trump has made tremendous strides in fixing the D.C. dysfunction, but he needs more help. In Wisconsin, we know how to fix broken government and put taxpayers back in charge.” Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner will be retiring after his current term, which runs until January of 2021. He was first elected to the 5th Congressional District in 1978. Fitzgerald is the first Republican to enter the race.
Counties Getting Additional Prosecutors
The state is funding nearly 65 new prosecutors’ positions. It comes as welcome news to District Attorneys across the state and is the first increase in Assistant District Attorney positions in ten years. Fond du County District Attorney Eric Toney says Fond du Lac County is getting two new ADA’s. The state will take over funding for one county position with the county maintaining funding for a position and the net effect is two new ADA positions. He’s grateful for that because it will essentially give the county 10 prosecutors with a need for 11.5 ADA’s. “We really appreciate the work of our legislators, some of our local ones, some in other communities and the Governor for helping make this happen. It is a historic investment in prosecutors across the state which I think communities will benefit in Fond du Lac County and throughout Wisconsin.” Fifty-six counties will benefit from the additional prosecutors. Dodge County will get one additional prosecutor, Winnebago County two, and Green Lake, Marquette, Waupaca and Waushara will get funding for part-time positions.

Twenty First Year For Watson Street Car Show
Last year a 1969 Camaro from Fond du Lac won Best-of-Show in the Watson Street Car Show, which classic car has what it takes to win this year? That questioned will be answered during the show, which is part of Septemberfest in Ripon this weekend. Howard Stibb is one of the organizers of the Car Show now in its 21st year. He says years ago when they began they had about 60 cars in the show, but last year that had grown to 180. There are 25 classes including stock and modified. He says during last year’s show they displayed the Best-of-Show winner from 2017, a Dodge Challenger and so it will go for last year’s winner. “The one that had won Best-of-Show two years ago now we had him featured we had him right on the corner of Watson and Seward Street and then we had a sign board out there explaining who owned the car and that was out 2017 Best-of-Show.” The Car Show is Saturday from 8 am to 3 pm with registration from 8 am to 12 pm. Trophies will be awarded just after 3 pm.
