Fatal Shooting In Sheboygan

Police in Sheboygan are investigating a fatal shooting. It happened around 5 pm Monday afternoon in the parking lot of a Cash Store in the 3000 Block of South Business Drive. Officers found one person dead at the scene and took another into custody a short time later. A gun was also located. Police do not believe it was a random act.

Winnebago County Keeping Coroner Elected Position 

The Winnebago County Board has decided to keep the County Coroner’s position an elected position rather than replace it with a medical examiner. The vote was 33 to 1 with two supervisors absent. Longtime Coroner Barry Busby is resigning at the end of October following allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct in office. Governor Evers will be appointing someone to fill the remainder of Busby’s four-year term in office.  

Domestic Violence Responsible For 39 Murders In Wisconsin In 2018 

The Wisconsin Domestic Violence Homicide Report was released yesterday at a women’s center in Waukesha. According to the report 47 people in the state lost their lives due to domestic violence in 2018. Thirty-nine were victims and the other eight were perpetrators who then committed suicide. Thirty-seven percent were victims who were killed while trying to leave the relationship. One of those victims was from Winnebago County. Milwaukee County had the most victims with 11.

Railroad Crossing Safety Enforcement Effort Today

Today the Wisconsin State Patrol will partner with local law enforcement agencies across the state to enforce laws and help educate travelers on the dangers associated with disregarding rail crossing signs/gates and trespassing on railroad property. Sponsored by Operation Lifesaver and Amtrak Police, “Operation Clear Track” is now in its third year and represents the single largest railroad safety law enforcement initiative in the U.S. and Canada. Railroad crossings in Racine, Kenosha, Winnebago, Marinette, Douglas, Rusk, Buffalo, Chippewa, and Wood Counties will be monitored. The crossing in Winnebago County that will be monitored is in Oshkosh at Washington and Broad Streets.

Waupun Attorney Running For Dodge County Judge 

Waupun Attorney Kristine Snow is running for Dodge County Circuit Court Judge. Snow and her husband are currently partners in the Waupun firm of Snow Law where she practices bankruptcy, real estate, probate, family law, and other general legal matters. She has 27 years of legal experience appearing before dozens of judges, in both state and federal court and has represented clients on appeal before both the Court of Appeals and state Supreme Court. She graduated from Columbus High School, then went onto UW-Madison. Snow is seeking the vacancy being created by the upcoming retirement of Judge Steven Bauer. Dodge County Prosecutor Jim Sempf also is running for the seat. The election is April 7th.   

Financial Aid Information Night  Scheduled At Ripon High School 

The Ripon Area School District will host a financial aid information night at the High School’s Community Room on Wednesday, October 2nd at 5:30 pm. A financial aid specialist will present information about financial aid options from a variety of perspectives: 4-year colleges, 2-year colleges and technical colleges. Prior to the presentation all senior students and parents are welcome to attend a 30-minute College Planning Session. To participate contact your child’s school counselor by calling the high school at (920) 748-4616 with any questions. 

Waupun Transportation Survey 

Waupun residents are being asked to complete a transportation survey. Community and Economic Development Coordinator Sarah Van Buren says the city and the Waupun Community Coalition on Aging will be conducting the community-wide questionnaire through the end of the month. The goal is to identify transportation barriers and challenges in the city. 

Ripon Wine Walk Sold Out 

Tickets for the Holiday Wine Walk in Ripon sold out in just 15 days. According to Ripon Main Street Manager Craig Tebon over 500 tickets sold after they went on sale September 1st. A waiting list has been started so if you are interested in adding your name to the list call the Main Street Office at (920) 748-6764. During the Wine Walk, businesses will become “tasting rooms” where attendees may sample up to 20 different wines throughout the evening. The event will take place from 5:30 to 8:30 pm on November 1st.
