Verdict Sad Reminder To Keep Your Eyes On The Road
Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney says a jury verdict for a 35-year-old North Fond du Lac man found guilty of two counts of homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle is a reminder that we have to be attentive on our highways. The jury’s verdict last Thursday capped a nearly four day long trial for Travis Wollersheim. Wollersheim ran into the back of a car in a construction zone in Fond du Lac on I-41 on June 22nd, 2016. Toney says the jury’s verdict can’t do anything about the two lives that were lost that day on I-41. “It’s just a horrible, tragic and sad event. Two people, 26-year-old David Button and his 8-year-old son Joey, were killed in this crash and this jury verdict can’t bring them back.” According to the criminal complaint Wollersheim was going 68 miles an hour when his SUV ran into the back of the car that was behind a stopped semi on I-41. The Buttons were passengers in the car he rear-ended.
Appleton Woman Sentenced For Ex Boyfriends Shooting
The 26-year-old former Appleton woman who incited a 20-year-old Appleton man to shoot her ex-boyfriend was recently sentenced on a first degree recklessly endangering safety charge. Clea Bowden was sentenced in Winnebago County court to three years in prison and four years of extended supervision. The charge stemmed from an incident in the 500 block of Grand Street in Oshkosh on March 24th. According to the criminal complaint Bowden had argued with her ex-boyfriend about how long he had borrowed a car. She allegedly got several people to go to his home where Kyle Wiegand shot the man in the chest. Wiegand was sentenced earlier this month to five years in prison and sevens year of extended supervision for his role in the shooting. \
Not Legal In This State
A 32-year-old Green Bay man should have kept his seat when Waupun Police pulled him over for a traffic stop last Thursday. Instead he switched seats with a passenger, which an officer saw. The man was driving on a revoked license. Police learned the driver and passenger were returning from a trip to Colorado and they brought back souvenirs. A subsequent search turned up over a pound of marijuana, edible marijuana products and drug paraphernalia. The man was arrested on drug charges and for operating after revocation. He was taken to the Fond du Lac County Jail.
Congressman Grothman On The Wall
Congressman Glenn Grothman says progress is being made on reducing the number of immigrants coming into our country on the southern borders. “We have less people crossing the border in May, but still too many. In May we had 144,000 people get processed at the border in the most recent month, of August, we had 64,000 so we are down over 50 percent but we are still up 20,000 over a year ago.” Grothman says the wall is being built and they are hoping it will be 700 miles long by the end of President Trump’s current term in office. He notes the new wall is 30 feet high and 6 to 8 feet into the ground and the four attempts to get through it so far have not been successful.
Unemployment Rates Up Compared To A Year Ago
Month to month unemployment rates in Wisconsin have seen little movement over the past few months, but compared to a year ago there is a difference. The state reported last week that unemployment rates for 71 of the state’s 72 counties were up compared to August of 2018. For instance the jobless rate for Fond du Lac County was at 2.7 percent in August of 2018 and was at 3.2 percent last month. Winnebago County was up from 2.9 to 3.2 percent, Green Lake County from 3 to 3.5 percent, Dodge County from 2.4 to 2.9 percent and Waushara County from 2.8 to 3.6 percent. Rates also stayed the same or increased for all 33 Wisconsin cities the state keeps track of.

This past Saturday’s Waushara County Crime Stoppers Jailbreak Marathon benefitted the Sheriff’s Department’s K9 program. Race organizer Norm Duesterhoeft says they are fortunate to have such a strong program for a small County. “We’re actually pretty fortunate in a rural county like Waushara County we actually have three dogs in the county working as deputies.” Duesterhoeft says Thor and Argo have been with the Sheriff’s Department for some time, but racers also got the chance Saturday to meet the newest addition to the K9 program, Storm.
