Three Separate Incidents Reported On Big Green Lake
The Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded to three separate calls on Big Green Lake Wednesday over a little over a six-hour time span. The calls involved a scuba diver that was hooked by a fishing lure, a catamaran that tipped over throwing a man into the water, and a scuba diver whose pontoon boat was gone when he emerged from the water. In all three cases there were no injuries reported. There was concern that the diver who was hooked by a fishing lure surfaced too quickly and might have the “bends.” A resident in a pontoon boat picked up the man thrown from his catamaran and both returned safely to shore. The other scuba diver was taken back to shore and the Sheriff’s water patrol found the missing boat which had drifted with the winds about a half mile until its anchors touched bottom again.

Gerke’s body was found in a shallow grave in a cow pasture off Redwing Road in the Town of Lebanon last Halloween. Last month Schultz pleaded no contest to a first degree intentional homicide charge. He will be sentenced on January 7th.

Red Cross Responds To Home Fires
An official with the American Red Cross office in Milwaukee says they respond to a couple house fires a day in the state. Justin Kern says they usually get a call from a fire or law enforcement agency first, but it isn’t uncommon for them to respond to a fire such as the one in Fond du Lac Thursday. “We respond to about two fires a day in the state. What we bring is certainly some of the basics like assistance with temporary lodging, some of those hygiene needs, but our volunteers the first thing they really bring is comfort.” Kern says they couldn’t do what they do without their volunteers and they have over 2,300 volunteers throughout the state.
