Award Winning Poet To Appear At Ripon College

RIPON — Poet Tarfia Faizullah, author of two poetry collections, will give a reading at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Ripon College. The program will be in the MLK Lounge, Harwood Memorial Union. It is free and open to the public.
Her appearance is supported by the Ripon College Visiting Writers Series and the Schang Family Visiting Writer Fund.
Faizullah’s poetry collections include Registers of Illuminated Villages and Seam. Her writing also has appeared in such publications as Hindu Business Line, BuzzFeed, PBS News Hour, Huffington Post, Poetry Magazine, The New Republic, The Nation and Halal If You Hear Me, and has been displayed at the Smithsonian and the Rubin Museum of Art.
The recipient of a Fulbright fellowship, three Pushcart prizes and other honors, Faizullah presents work at institutions and organizations worldwide and has been featured at the Liberation War Museum of Bangladesh, the Library of Congress, the Fulbright Conference, the Lannan Center for Poetics and Social Practice, the Radcliffe Seminars, NYU, Barnard, UC Berkeley, the Poetry Foundation, the Clinton School of Public Service, Brac University and elsewhere.
Her writing is translated into Bengali, Persian, Chinese and Tamil, and is part of the theater production Birangona: Women of War. In 2016, Faizullah was recognized by Harvard Law School as one of 50 Women Inspiring Change. Born in Brooklyn, New York, to Bangladeshi immigrants and raised in Texas, Faizullah currently lives in Chicago.
