The school resource officer for the Ripon Police Department is reminding drivers to be on the lookout for children as school returns to session next week.  Officer Bret Henning urges kids to stay on the sidewalks and cross at the cross walks as they walk to and from school. He also asks them to follow the instruction of crossing guards that will be on duty. The city employs four crossing guards. For motorists it’s a matter of slowing down to the required speed of 15 miles an hour in school zones. Henning says they will remind you if you don’t. “You know sometimes people forget or they are in a hurry you know if you stop somebody. ‘You know you are going pretty fast in a school zone. Ah, yeah I forgot, I’m in a hurry.’ It takes that one time before we have a tragedy so we encourage people to slow down as much as possible.” Henning says school zones are posted with a house-shaped pentagon featuring kids holding hands.
