Wareing Out Cancer

(From the Wareing Out Cancer website)

A Wautoma area woman is battling for her life after being diagnosed with a terminal illness. Melissa Ware got that Stage 4 colon cancer diagnosis in March of last year. At the time she was 36-years-old.  Her husband was with her when she was told the cancer was inoperable and she had about two years left in her life. Melissa is the Technology Director for the Wautoma Area School District. She says she could have chosen to let the illness take its course and remain at home, but instead she is going to work as long as she can. She says it gives her a sense of purpose. “Understand when you’re dealing with something like terminal illness you need to maintain some sort of normal life style, not only for me but my kids. They need to see that things just don’t stop when something bad happens you have to keep going and it gives me a purpose.” Melissa continues to get chemotherapy and fundraisers are being held to help with the costs. One was held at the Moose Inn in Wautoma yesterday. Julie Petersen helped organize that benefit. She’s Melissa’s friend and a member of the Wareing Out Cancer committee. She told us the committee was truly humbled by the outpouring of support from the small town of Wautoma and the surrounding communities. She says they are blessed to live in an area that is filled with people who are willing to open their hearts to support such a deserving person and her family.
