Truly Unique Comedians Coming To Thrasher

25 August 2019 News

(Emo Philips)

On September 6 and 7, funnymen Tim Cavanagh and Emo Philips make a return visit to the historic Thrasher Opera House in downtown Green Lake. With over 65 years of experience between them, both Cavanagh and Philips are seasoned performers ready to tickle a few funnybones!

Cavanagh began by teaching at a Catholic high school during the day and honing his skills at comedy clubs in Chicago at night. Since leaving the classroom, Tim Cavanagh has brought his comedic songs and inventive stand-up to concert halls, corporations, college campuses, and nightclubs across America. Early on, it was Tim’s funny songs that got a lot of attention. His song “I Wanna Kiss Her (But She Won’t Let Me),” was the first of Tim’s pieces to receive national radio exposure on the legendary “Dr. Demento” show. Other songs followed, including “99 Dead Baboons,” “Get Drunk with Dignity,” and “Really Safe Sex.”  In addition to a very busy schedule on the comedy circuit, Cavanagh enjoys making frequent guest appearances on the nationally syndicated “The Tom and Bob” radio show.

Emo Philips also began his career in Chicago in 1976 and has since had several award-winning comedy albums, cable specials and many appearances on network television, both in America and in the UK. He has appeared in films (most notably as the table-saw demonstrator in UHF) and has lent his voice to TV shows, such as Slacker Cats, Doctor Katz, Adventure Time, and Home Movies, but his first love, stand-up, remains his true one.

An added bonus occurs between their Friday & Saturday shows at Thrasher when Cavanagh will return as an honorary guest judge at the Wisconsin State Championship Chili Cookoff at Deacon Mills Park in downtown Green Lake on Saturday, September 8. Activities start at 10:30 a.m. with judging at 3:00 p.m., with sampling by the crowd to follow.

With these two impressive resumes, an evening with Tom and Emo is certain to put a smile on your face – so be sure to reserve your spot for this evening of fun soon! Tickets are only $22 and available at the Thrasher office, Horicon Bank (Green Lake), Webster’s Marketplace, Ripon Drug (Ripon), Twister (Princeton), or by calling (920)-294-4279. Tickets are also available online at www.thrasheroperahouse.com.

This performance is supported in part by grants from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin, and the National Endowment for the Arts and the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation.
