Storm Damage Surveyed

A decision to issue a Tornado Warning for eastern Fond du Lac County Wednesday night was based on several factors. A Sheriff’s deputy saw a funnel cloud with some rotation east of Fond du Lac. The National Weather Service also saw some rotation on radar and issued a warning, which was canceled shortly afterwards as the storm weakened. County Communications and Emergency Management Director Bobbi Hicken was out surveying the damage Thursday morning. She says straight line winds can cause just as much damage if they are strong enough .“Brandon and Ripon actually received a lot more damage than the area that had the reported funnel cloud.” Hicken says when she got to the Brandon area there were tree limbs and power lines down, but no significant structural damage. Berlin also had quite a bit of tree damage and went through a power outage during the storm. Power was restored to the most of Alliant Energy’s customers in Green Lake County by Noon Thursday.
