Downtown Ripon will be busier than usual Saturday when a one-time tradition returns after more than a 25-year hiatus. Residents will be able to “Scoop the Loop” or cruise a downtown route without fear of violating a city ordinance. The ordinance has been waived for the event, which is from 5 to 9 pm. Shelly Kastenschmidt used to “Scoop the Loop” back in the day and was one of those involved in bringing it back. “Whereas other communities may have cruising Ripon has that loop that goes around the Rotary Square and at the time we went around on Blackburn Street and so it really turned into a circle and made it more conducive to I guess go past each other a lot.” Organizers are hoping participants will make a day of it enjoying the city’s restaurants and shops. There will also be a showing of the film “Back to the Future” on the Village Green, which should begin about 8:30 or dusk. A map of the Scoop the Loop route will be available on the Ripon, Wisconsin Facebook page.
