Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney credits the Ripon Police Department for their investigation, which led to the conviction of a sexual predator that was preying on children in the city. Last Friday 58-year-old Terry Phelps was sentenced to 30 years in prison and 13 years of extended supervision for sexually assaulting and abusing children. He says Ripon’s Police Department conducted a great investigation. “It’s just an overall top notch agency and Officer Kaylee Haring was I think the primary officer in charge of the investigation with Sergeant Lindsey Michels assisting and Chief Wallner always seems to have great people working over there so we really appreciate that excellent investigation.” He also praises the work of Assistant District Attorneys Kristin Menzl and Foss Davis for their work on the prosecution of Phelps. Toney says there were at least six victims.
Child Sexual Predator Taken Off The Street
Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney says even in a smaller community there can be a sexual threat to young children. Recently 58-year-old Terry Phelps of Ripon was sentenced to 30 years in prison and 13 years of extended supervision on child sexual assault and abuse charges. There were at least six victims. Toney says those children helped get Phelps off the street. “We just appreciate the difficult decision that folks sometimes have when they have been a survivor of some type of sexual assault to come forward and share that story and it takes courage to do that.” Toney also praised the work of Ripon Police investigators and the job his prosecutors did. Phelps was given credit for the 126 days he had already spent in jail.
