Ripon Man Sentenced On Child Sexual Assault And Abuse Charges
3 August 2019 News
A Fond du Lac County judge Friday sentenced a 58-year-old Ripon man who sexually assaulted and abused children to 30 years in prison and 13 years of extended supervision. Terry Phelps pled to 6 charges and 37 others were read into the record and dismissed. He entered an Alford plea to one count of repeated sexual assault of the same child. An Alford plea is not an admission of guilt, but an acknowledgement that there might be enough evidence for a conviction. He also pled no contest to three counts of child abuse intentionally causing great harm and two counts of physical abuse of a child, repeated acts causing bodily harm. Phelps was sentenced by Judge Robert Wirtz. The pleas and sentencing mean he avoids a two-week jury trial that was scheduled to begin December 9th.
