Reigning National League MVP Christian Yelich is expected to return to the Brewers’ starting lineup Tuesday against the Twins after Milwaukee’s off-day on Monday. The outfielder has been out of the lineup in each of the past five games due to a back injury, but he pinch-hit Sunday. Logging his first plate appearance since last Monday, Yelich struck out swinging in a six-pitch at-bat against Rangers left-hander Mike Minor with the tying run on second base in the bottom of the eighth inning. This isn’t the first time this season Yelich has been sidelined by a back issue. He was previously out of the lineup for six straight games from April 29 to May 4. However, he has managed to avoid the injured list to this point. In his most recent start, Yelich went 4-for-5 with a pair of homers. He’s hitting .335 with an MLB-leading 39 home runs and a 1.130 OPS on the year. Tonight, left-hander Martin Perez, who’s 8-5, goes for the Twins against the Brewers right-hander Chase Anderson, who’s 5-2. First pitch is at 7:10 and the game can be heard on AM1100/98.3FM, WISS.
In the N.L. Central on Monday, Washington edged Cincinnati 7-6 and the Pirates pounded the Dodgers 10-2. The Cubs lead the Cardinals by two games and the Brewers by 2 ½.
As if Opening Day wasn’t already a grand enough occasion, the Brewers’ next Opening Day will be against the rival Cubs. Major League Baseball released the 2020 schedules for all 30 teams on Monday, and the Brewers’ 50th anniversary season will begin in front of the home fans at Miller Park with a Thursday, March 26 opener against Chicago at 1:10 p.m. CT. I t will mark the eighth time in the past nine seasons that the Brewers will start a season at home, and the second time in history that the Cubs will be the Brewers’ opening opponent. The teams also started the season against each other in 2008 at Wrigley Field. It’s an all-rivalry opening homestand against the Cubs (March 26, 28-29) and Cardinals (March 30-April 1) before the Brewers hit the road to Philadelphia for a three-game series that includes the Phillies’ home opener followed by two games in Cincinnati against the Reds.
The Packers are back on the practice field today in preparation for their second game of the preseason on Thursday night at Baltimore. Meanwhile, the Packers have signed FB Tommy Bohanon. Bohanon, a 6-foot-1, 246-pound sixth-year player out of Wake Forest, was originally
drafted by the New York Jets in the seventh round (No. 215 overall) of the 2013 NFL
Draft. He played three seasons for the Jets (2013-15) and two seasons with the
Jacksonville Jaguars (2017-18). For his career, Bohanon has played in 68 games with
30 starts during the regular season, totaling 72 rushing yards on 26 carries (2.8
avg.) with two touchdowns and 29 receptions for 239 yards (8.2 avg.) and one TD. He
has also played in three postseason contests with one start, recording two
receptions for 34 yards (17.0 avg.) and a TD. Bohanon will wear No. 48 for the
Packers.
The Milwaukee Bucks will tip-off the 2019-20 season at Houston on Thursday, Oct. 24 before returning to Milwaukee for the first two games of the season at Fiserv Forum on Saturday, Oct. 26 vs. Miami and on Monday, Oct. 28 vs. Cleveland. The entire 2019-20 regular season schedule was announced today by the NBA. The Bucks will play a total of 24 games on ABC, ESPN and TNT this season (up from 18 in 2018-19), including the season opener against the Rockets on TNT and a Christmas Day matchup at Philadelphia, which will tip-off at 1:30 p.m. CT on ABC. The previously announced NBA Paris Game 2020 between the Bucks and Charlotte Hornets – the NBA’s first-ever regular season game in Paris – will tip-off at 2 p.m. CT on Friday, Jan. 24, from AccorHotels Arena.
