Aaron Rodgers was a last minute scratch from the starting lineup last night because of back tightness and the Packers went on to lose 26-13 to the Ravens in Baltimore. The announcement came about an hour before kickoff. The injury was deemed serious as a precautionary measure. Deshone Kizer started in place of Rodgers. The score at the end of the first quarter was 6-3 as the Packers scored on a 43-yard Mason Crosby field goal. The first touchdown came in the second quarter as the Ravens Trace McSorely threw a 23- yard touchdown pass to Chris Moore. The Packers added another field goal to make it 13-6 at the half as Sam Ficken kicked a 43-yard field goal late in the quarter. The Ravens increased the lead in the third quarter on a one-yard scoring run by Chris Moore to make it 20-6. The Packers came back later in the quarter and scored their only touchdown on a seven-yard pass from Tim Boyle to Darrius Shepherd and closed to 20-13. But that was all the scoring Green Bay could muster. The Ravens added two more field goas in the fourth to close out the scoring. Starter DeShone Kizer completed 5 of 10 passes for 70 yards while Tim Boyle was 12 of 21 for 107 yards and one touchdown. Manny Wilkens played a couple of series in the fourth quarter and went 1 for 2 for 14 yards. Allen Lazard caught three passes for 63 yards and Jake Kumerow had three catches for 52 yards. Darren Hall led the Packers in rushing with 31 yards on seven carries. The Packers drop to 1-1 in the preseason and play the Raiders next Thursday night in Winnipeg, Canada.
After a day off on Thursday the Brewers open a weekend road series at Washington. Adrian Houser, who’s 5-5, starts for Milwaukee against the Nationals left-hander Patrick Corbin, who’s 9-5. First pitch is at 6:05 and the game can be heard on AM1100/98.3FM, WISS.
In the N.L. Central on Thursday, the Phillies beat the Cubs 7-5 and the Reds edged the Cardinals 2-1. The Cardinals and Cubs are tied for first in the division and the Brewers are a game out.
