NFDL Man Sentenced On Drunken Driving Charge
A 30-year-old North Fond du Lac man who led Dodge County Sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase on Highway 151 last December has been sentenced to 20 days in jail and a year and a half of probation. Mackenzie Rae Trosper Monday entered a no contest plea to an operating while intoxicated second offense charge. A fleeing charge was dismissed. According to the criminal complaint at the conclusion of the pursuit Trosper said he got off the highway to find a restroom that he was on his way to Illinois to see his dying grandmother and wasn’t the person they had been chasing. His blood alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit. Trosper was eventually arrested by Beaver Dam Police officers.
DOT Numbers Scam
Markesan Police Chief Will Pflum says scammers are mailing out letters to farms and businesses posing as a business connected with the U.S. Department of Transportation telling them the D-O-T numbers for their trucks and heavy equipment need to be updated. He says the letters threaten deactivation and fines up to $1,000 a day. A website is given and they ask you to use your credit card to pay processing fees. The letter is from “DotService.com,” which the Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicles confirms is not legit. Pflum says the real DOT would not charge a processing fee to upgrade numbers. He asks people to throw the letters out if they receive them and pass the word.
Grothman And Johnson Comment On Duffy Retirement
Congressman Glenn Grothman says Congressman Sean Duffy has long been a leader who brings real Wisconsin values and common-sense solutions to Washington. Grothman issued a statement Monday after Duffy announced he would be retiring next month to help his wife Rachel tend to the needs of their unborn child who has developed prenatal heart complications. Grothman says Duffy was a model representative who looked out for his district. Senator Ron Johnson also commented on Duffy’s announcement says, “Family responsibilities should always come first, and I fully understand and respect Sean’s decision to devote his full time and attention to his family.”
Achievement Gap Concerns
The chairman of the State Senate’s Education Committee says he’s concerned about the gap for achievement success in our schools between minorities and white students. Senator Luther Olsen of Ripon says it’s something no state can afford. “We cannot afford to have that in our state, any state. Just because those students need to grow up to be successful folks in our communities, we need the workforce. A lot of times if they are not successful they wind up in prison that costs us money.” Olsen says the problem is we are not patient and we try to do everything at once. He says an educator once told him to close the gap you have to make sure that every student starting in first grade achieves at grade level or better and go from there.
Save A Smile
The Oral Health Coordinator for Fond du Lac County says they give dental access to about 1,000 kids a year in the county who might not otherwise get it. Samantha Twohig says the Save a Smile program provides dental care to kids on medical assistance or who come from income-challenged families. The program provides cleaning, dental exams, x-rays, filings, sealings and extractions. “We have children ages even two and up that actually need dental surgery because the dental need is so severe and that it has such a major impact on our health and without access to dental care their body is truly dealing with some major infections.” She says the way the county has addressed dental health care is very unique and successful. She credits partners like to the county, City of Fond du Lac, United Way, Agnesian HealthCare SSM and the Fond du Lac Area Foundation for their contributions to the program. To find out more about the program go to the county’s website.
