Schmidt’s department will soon adopt a policy where those arrested for operating under the influence will have their photos and information about their arrest posted on the Sheriff’s Facebook page. Schmidt believes it is important to notify the public about others who are putting them at risk. The launch date for the new policy will be within the next 30 days.

FDL County Switching To Private Firm For Nursing At County Jail

Fond du Lac County is going to a private company to provide nursing services for inmates in the County Jail. The County Board’s Finance Committee recently gave its blessing to switch to ACH. County Executive Allen Buechel says that switch is still about 60 to 90 days out. The county had been using county nurses, but Buechel says they can’t staff the jail 16 hours a day 7 days a week, which is what the jail needs. He says ironically ACH can do that and at about the same cost as what the county was paying its nurses for more limited staffing. “The Health Department just can’t get enough nurses that want to work those shifts, but at any rate they can’t get those kinds of nurses and the expense would go up significantly.” Buechel says it remains to be seen whether ACH will be able to provide the same level of care to inmates that county nurses did.
