Special Education Reimbursement Rate Increasing

State Senator Luther Olsen says he worked hard to improve the reimbursement public school districts get for special education costs. Olsen chairs the Senate’s Education Committee. The state lawmaker from Ripon says Special Education students have a right to get the services they need. He says they worked hard to increase the reimbursement rate for Special Education in the state budget. “That number that percent had not been increased for a number of years it was about 25 percent. We got it the first year up to about 26 and then after that, the second year of the budget, it was at 30 percent.” Olsen says if schools do not get enough money from federal or state government to fund their Special Education programs they will shift it out of their General Education funding, which affects other students.

It had a Hollywood theme complete with its own version of the Oscars. “It was amazing we had about 40 or 45 people there and a deejay. All donated. I think Wellspring had a horse and buggy and they were giving free rides.” Sunday brought the Legion’s 100th Anniversary open house, which included music by Tuba Dan.
