Equifax Settlement

An official with the State’s Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection says if you are going to claim money in the Equifax Breach Settlement better to do it sooner. Lara Sutherlin is the Administrator for the Division of Trade and Consumer Protection. She says if you already have credit protection and choose not to have it done through Equifax you could get up to $125. But that money will go fast, because it is capped at $30 million. She says you can also get reimbursed for costs associated with fraud that was committed against you, but that is capped at 10 hours. “They are reimbursing people for that and that’s up to ten hours you don’t have to provide any documentation, but  after 10 hours if you need reimbursement  for that you need to provide documentation that you actually may have been exposed to fraud.” Sutherlin recommends filing your claim through the Federal Trade Commission website, which provides a link for the Equifax Settlement. She says that’s a way of assuring you are going through a legitimate website

Active Threat Requires Rapid Response

Ripon Police Chief Bill Wallner says active threats require a rapid response and waiting for a SWAT team response takes up precious time. He notes back in the days of Columbine law enforcement agencies were taught to set up a perimeter around the scene and wait for SWAT. He says now the procedure requires entering the building where the threat is as quick as possible. “We have evolved so far in these scenarios that our officers are now trained that we get that call our officers are entering that building and they are going to neutralize that threat and that’s their mission and that’s what they need to do and they need to do that rapidly and as quickly as possible.” Chief Wallner says they value the relationship they have with Fond du Lac, Green Lake, and Winnebago County Sheriff’s Departments for their SWAT team response, but it takes 45 minutes to an hour to put that team together and have them come to Ripon.

BRAVE Differences

The Project Director for the BRAVE program and Site Coordinator for the Ripon Middle School Catalyst program says while the Boys & Girls Club provides fantastic programs, there are differences between it and the BRAVE program. The school district this past school year had considered a request to house an extension of the Tri-County Areas’ Boys & Girls Club, but opted instead to keep its BRAVE programs. Ashley O’Kon says the BRAVE program offers before and after-school programming for kids at Barlow, Murray Park Quest, and the Ripon Middle School Catalyst. “BRAVE is incredibly structured. We offer homework help, recess and an enrichment class. We only operate on days when school is in session and historically it wasn’t meant to be child care per se. It was very focused on academic and enrichment for students.” BRAVE’s Barlow Park Elementary program recently received a grant that will allow it to expand.

FDL County Board Preview

The Fond du Lac County Board tonight will consider approving a couple of grant for County Health Department programs. A grant for nearly $117,000 will help fund the 5 Counties for Tobacco Program that the county administers and is part of along with Green Lake, Marquette, Washington, and Waushara Counties. A $7,500 grant from the Fond du Lac Area Foundation will help fund the Save a Smile Dental Health program. The Board will also consider allowing county officials to use Federal Emergency Management Agency reimbursement funds to purchase a used squad for the County’s Communications and Emergency Management Director. The Board meets at 6 pm tonight at the City-County Government Center in Fond du Lac.

Dodge County Fair Attendance Up

An official with the Dodge County Fair says this past week’s attendance was more than last year’s, but about 1,600 less than in 2017. Fair Board Secretary Sally Schoenike says early morning rain three of the Fair’s five days did not hamper attendance, which is still being calculated. Last year’s attendance was 43,600 people.
