Milwaukee Youth Charged For High Speed Chase In FDL County

The 17-year-old Milwaukee man involved in a 12-mile high speed chase with Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputies early last Thursday morning has been charged. Tyrell Hazelwood made his initial appearance Thursday in Fond du Lac County court on a fleeing an officer charge. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Friday, August 23rd. A $500 cash bond was set. Failing to wear a seatbelt and speeding charges have also been filed against him. Hazelwood was allegedly going 120 miles an hour at one point during the chase on Interstate 41. It culminated when he crashed in a ditch after taking an exit at County Highway N.
Ripon City Administrator Found Guilty Of OWI
Ripon City Administrator Lori Rich has been convicted for a drunken driving incident in Green Lake County this past May. This past week Judge Mark Slate entered a default judgment on her behalf to operating while intoxicated first and operating left of center citations. Rich was not present for the hearing. Her fines and court costs come to more than $1,200 and Judge Slate also revoked her driver’s license for six months, ordered an ignition interlock device on her vehicle for a year, and required an alcohol and other drugs assessment. A third citation for operating with a prohibited alcohol content was dismissed on a prosecutor’s motion. Rich lives in Princeton. She previously told us she realizes she made a mistake and has learned her lesson. She says, “I have been using this as a learning opportunity to hopefully help others from making a similar mistake.”
Active Threat Training In Ripon Tuesday
Ripon residents should not be alarmed if they see police, fire and ambulance responding to the high school Tuesday morning. It is part of active threat training those responders and the school district will be doing from 9 am to Noon. Over the past few years the groups have worked on increasing cooperation, training, education, and preparedness for such an event in the City. The exercise allows participants to train for a proper response.
Warriors On The Water
More than 80 veterans got the opportunity to go fishing in the Oshkosh area Saturday during the 2nd Annual Warriors on the Water event staged at Skipper Bud’s. Vickie Frank is with the Appleton-based chapter of Wounded Warriors United of Wisconsin. She says they overcome whatever the obstacle there is to get veterans out fishing and hunting. “A lot of veterans have various challenges that don’t enable them to get out fishing and hunting and that’s what our organization does we make it possible to get those vets back out and it really inspires them and empowers them to get motivated to get back out and enjoy the sport that they really like.” Franks says they’ve developed a huge network of volunteer fishermen and hunters that allows them to give veterans those fishing and hunting opportunities. ADVOCAP Head Start Program Needs Bus Drivers
ADVOCAP is still taking registration for their Head Start classes, but classes start September 1st. Hillary Gunther is the Director of Head Start and Family Development for ADVOCAP. More than 460 kids enrolled in ADVOCAP’s Head Start programs in Fond du Lac, North Fond du Lac, Berlin, Markesan and Ripon last year. But there are only a few openings left. “Monday, Tuesday are in Fond du Lac and Wednesdays in Markesan at our Prairie View Center. We are still accepting applications, we are still hiring staff. State Building Commission Approves Projects At Waupun Correctional And UW Oshkosh
A couple of projects in the area are part of the more than $30 million in projects the State’s Building Commission approved during their meeting last week. The commission approved construction of life safety improvements at the Behavioral Unit Building at Waupun Correctional Institution. They also approved classroom renovation and technology improvements at the UW-Oshkosh and UW-Stevens Point. Other projects included maintenance and repairs at the State Capitol Building and various projects at state facilities in 13 different counties.
