NTSB Releases Preliminary Report On Fatal Flight That Originated In Oshkosh
The National Transportation Safety Board Wednesday released a preliminary report on a Nebraska plane crash last week that killed three people. The report does not give a cause for the plane crashing near Chadon, Nebraska. One witness who was at the airport in Chadron told investigators that as the plane was preparing to land it suddenly dropped nose-down behind a tree line. Another witness said she heard the plane sputter as if losing power before the crash. Twenty-five-year-old Duncan Brown of Forestville, California and his parents, 61-year-old Damon Brown and 68-year-old Sarah Brown of Sebastopol, California were killed in the July 24th crash. The flight originated from Oshkosh and was heading to Chadron.
Musky Bites Boy
It’s been the summer of shark attacks on swimmers, but another kind of predatory fish apparently is preying on swimmers in Fox Lake. A.J. Campione needed 16 stitches after a fish chomped down on the 10-year-old’s leg. His mother believes the freshwater culprit was a musky, but one expert disagrees saying a musky biting a person would be uncommon.
Military Members Targeted For Rental Scams
The Administrator for the state’s Division of Trade and Consumer Protection says active military duty service members and veterans need to watch out for rental scams as they look for places to live. Lara Sutherlin says there is a lot of moving around when you’re in the military and scammers realize that so they use what are known as phishing scams. She says they will advertise rental properties they don’t own and put off actually showing it to you. She says you should never wire money first without seeing the property. “The key to knowing when there is a scam on rental property is when they won’t let you come visit the property. When they ask you to wire the money first without seeing the property and any request to go visit the property is rebuffed.” Sutherlin points out you can call your local government office to find out if a property is for rent or sale. She notes scammers may go so far as to take pictures of a property that is for sale and advertise it as being available for rent.

Green Lake County Has Its First Ever Fair Ambassador
Cole Chapman of Dalton is the first ever Fair Ambassador for the Green Lake County Fair. Traditionally there is a Fairest of the Fair and two young ladies did run, but Cole says the judges seemed to like his answers. He’s a sophomore at Oklahoma State University majoring in Agricultural Education and Animal Science and hopes someday to teach Ag in the classroom while growing his cattle herd of twenty-five. He’s been raising animals since he was young and was inspired early on to run for Fair Ambassador. “When I was just a young kid, about my third grade year, I saw the Fairest of the Fair and wondered if a guy could ever do that and as I went through all my years of 4-H I figured out a guy can and I said I’m going to do that my last year. And here I am.” Cole will represent Green Lake County in the State Fairest of the Fair competition next January in Wisconsin Dells. The Green Lake County Fair runs through Sunday at the Fairgrounds in Green Lake.
State Fair Underway In West Allis
It’s too easy; the State Fair has more food on a stick than you can shake a stick at. But Kristi Chuckel, the Director of Public Affairs for Wisconsin State Fair Park, says people enjoy them and they continue to be very popular every year. “There’s the corn dogs and the traditional things that you usually find on a stick, but now it seems like everyone wants to put their food on a stick. About a hundred plus foods on a stick, but we also have 67 new foods this year.” They also have some big names performing on their main stage including; Old Dominion, REO Speedwagon, Rick Springfield, Melissa Etheridge, the Isley Brothers with the Commodores and more. Chuckel says they also have a few new rides as well. The State Fair runs through August 11th at State Fair Park in West Allis.
