5 August 2019 News

State Representative Joan Ballweg focused on farmer suicides when she gave the Assembly Republican Weekly Radio Address this past week. Ballweg chairs the Speaker’s Task Force on Suicide Prevention. In here address she noted farmers have the highest suicide rate of any occupation. “Farmers and their families are entrepreneurs, whose businesses are dependent on variables such as weather, economic conditions and family support. This is why as Chair of the Speaker’s Task Force on Suicide Prevention, I made sure we focused our most recent hearing on the unique challenges and struggles facing this population. “ The state lawmaker from Markesan says the recent trends in suicide among farmers means they have to do more. The Task Force will meet again next Monday at Chippewa Valley Technical College in Eau Claire.
