Months of planning went into the active threat training that was held at the Ripon High School Tuesday morning. Ripon Police and Fire, Guardian Ambulance, and the School District each had their distinctive roles, which helps prepare for the unthinkable. Police Chief Bill Wallner says it involved the scenario of an active shooter and injured people.  Time is critical. During the shooting at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas responders were on the scene in 6 minutes, but 22 were killed and in Dayton, Ohio 30 seconds but nine were killed. Chief Wallner says more and more in training and with real threats officials are trying to reduce the time it takes to get to the wounded. “It is really important once that threat is addressed and neutralized that we get emergency response to those victims and what we are seeing is that victims were succumbing to their wounds after not getting medical treatment as rapidly as maybe we could have.” Organizers feel the exercise was a success. School District Superintendent Mary Whitrock says this school year their goal will be to help educate parents and students about the reunification process and how they can help in the event of an emergency.
