Waupun Man Charged For Hiding Woman Wanted In Drug Death

3 July 2019 News

A harboring a Felon charge has been brought against a 65-year-old Waupun man for allegedly hiding a Waupun woman at his home that was wanted for reckless homicide. Steven Bierman will make his initial appearance in Dodge County Court on the felony charge July 15th.  Thirty-nine-year-old Cara Zech was wanted in connection with the overdose death of 23-year-old Steven Compton of Fond du Lac. Compton died of a drug overdose on July 28th of last year.  When police showed up at Bierman’s apartment in Waupun on February 5th he wouldn’t answer the door. Zech was later taken into custody after leaving the apartment. Zech, 40-year-old Anthony Buechel of Waupun and 47-year-old Julie Harr of Fond du Lac had driven down to Milwaukee in July of last year to purchase heroin some of which went to Compton. Buechel has pleaded no contest to a similar charge and is awaiting sentencing. Harr, also facing a similar charge, has a plea and sentencing hearing in November and if she maintains her innocence a three-day jury trial. Zech has a status conference in her case August 9th.  Buechel, Harr, and Zech are all being prosecuted in Fond du Lac County court.
