Operation Dry Water Launches Today

5 July 2019 News

Operation Dry Water gets underway today with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, DNR and U.S. Coast Guard patrolling county waterways looking for people who are boating under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Sheriff’s Lieutenant Chris Dobyns says the goal is voluntary compliance. He says unlike driving in a car operating a boat under the influence also carries with it some “stressors” more common to the boating environment.  “The heat, the humidity, the sun, the waves you know that stuff can all put stress on the body without introducing any sort of chemical substance into it, so now you introduce alcohol or drugs and your kind of starting a recipe for disaster.” Penalties for boating under the influence include fines, jail, alcohol/drug assessment and completion of a boating safety course.
