It was 50 years ago Saturday Apollo 11 Astronaut Neil Armstrong took those famous steps on the Moon and uttered those famous words. “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” Former Ripon College Politics, Government and Global Studies Professor Marty Farrell says it took thousands of people to put man on the moon, but Armstrong best summed up the way a global TV audience of over 500 million seemed to feel in the moment. “That was very well said you know that really resonates with most people because it is absolutely true.” Farrell says it’s remarkable that it only took us 66 years to go from the first flight at Kitty Hawk in 1903 to man walking on the Moon on July 20th of 1969.
