New FDL County Highway Garage Progressing
Fond du Lac County Executive Al Buechel says the new county highway garage in Fond du Lac is on target to be completed by mid-to-late November. “The exterior work on the main garage is pretty much done. There is a lot of interior work that needs to go on for the next three or four months. Military Student Loan Scams
The Administrator for the state’s Division of Trade and Consumer Protection says active military duty service members carrying student debt are frequently targeted by scammers. Lara Sutherlin says altogether they carry about $3 billion in student loan debt. “Those 200,000 active duty service members are a big target for scammers who want to target you for helping refinance your student loans.” She says there are a lot of fraudulent debt consolidation companies out there that will tell you they can help refinance your loan for a free. Sutherlin points out much of that information for repayment is free from the Federal Government. So she recommends if you’re considering refinancing reaching out first to your loan servicer, the Department of Education or a non-profit financial consulting agency first.

Ripon Schools Superintendent Mary Whitrock says it was nice to give students and teachers from China the opportunity to learn about science and our culture during their stay. “About 20 students from our sister schools, two different sister schools in China, and three teachers to come in and partner and work with our students and our instructors and also learn about the college and tour and meet some of the professors there.” She says it’s a wonderful thing for those international students to come here and see what life is like in rural Wisconsin and get to see some of those fairs and venues and things that we have here in the summer.
