Fewer Rural Hospitals Delivering Babies

According to a report 11 rural hospitals in Wisconsin including Ripon Medical Center stopped routinely delivering babies over the last 10 years. The Wisconsin Office of Rural Health issued the report, which says closures were due to the challenge of a low number of both on-call providers and the number of deliveries. It goes on to say that five of the 35 rural hospitals still providing obstetrics are at risk of ending the service. Nearly 99 percent of women of child-bearing age in Wisconsin live within a half hour drive of a hospital that offers obstetric services.

Grothman Planning Third Trip To Southern Border

Congressman Glenn Grothman is planning another trip down to the Texas/Mexico border at the end of the month. He says illegal immigration continues to be a problem and is one that is threatening our country. “I have been on the border twice. I plan on going down to the El Paso sector at the end of the month for my third trip down there. As you know in May over 150,000 people crossed the border many of these people asking for asylum.” Grothman says we need a wall and more border patrol agents with 2,000 vacancies there. He also feels we need to do something about our asylum laws and make changes to the birth right citizenship laws.

EAA Volunteers

It takes an army of volunteers to prepare for and then make EAA AirVenture the smooth operation that it is. And those volunteers come from all over the country. Jane Kewley spent some time painting platforms for the Theater in the Woods and has other tasks through this week. Her husband flys and they set up camp in a tent during AirVenture. Jane, who is from Streeter, Illinois, says she will be working about 6 hours a day, but still has time to check out the planes and meet others during EAA. “Love meeting all the people and love keeping busy and there are so many interesting things to see here. We’ve been coming since 1980.” This year is the 50th for EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh.
