Stay Safe During Heat Wave

During this heat wave the state’s Department of Health Services is sharing some tips. Stay in air conditioning when you can even if that means going to a mall or library or supermarket. Check on loved ones, older friends and neighbors who live alone and don’t have air conditioning. Avoid going outside during the hottest part of the day. Avoid leaving a pet or person in a parked car for even a short time. And stay hydrated drinking plenty of water on hot days.

FDL County Fair Begins Wednesday

An official with the Fond du Lac County Fair says lining up the main musical acts for the Fair takes timing and a little luck. Mattel Immel is the Treasurer of the Fair Board. He says Friday night’s Grandstand acts are a trio of well-known Rock and Roll acts. Orleans, the GuessWho, and Rare Earth will all perform mini-concerts.  Immel says the show will run about 2 ½ hours. “It will be kind of a neat opportunity right here in your backyard in Fond du Lac to get three acts with songs that lots of people from different generations know and love so we’re excited about that one.” Saturday Country Star Brett Young will perform. Immel says they lined Young up last fall and has had three or four hit songs since then. For more about the Fond du Lac County Fair go to their website. The Fair runs Wednesday through Sunday at the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds in Fond du Lac.

Organizer P.J. Christopherson says they are pleased with the increased sponsorship this year. “Our participation was about the same as last year, but I think the biggest win for this year was really increasing the awareness and actually having businesses reach out to me and say this is something we would like to be part of. So I can tell that the word is starting to get out there in the second year.” The $10 registration fee gets you a t-shirt, which you need to pick up the prizes and lists the participating sponsors. He says they are also asking people to donate a canned good when they sign up, which will go to the Ripon Food Pantry. Sign up continues through August.  You can sign up at Advanced Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine at 402 Eureka Street in Ripon or the Ripon Area Chamber of Commerce.
