The Ripon police dog Rony doesn’t have to be worried about the excessive heat we will be experiencing when he is a police vehicle that’s on patrol. His handler Officer Trevor Henke says the car is equipped with a heat deterrent system that makes it clear if the air conditioning in the car isn’t working when the dog is left in the vehicle alone. “We have a heat system in it so I actually have a little pager in my pocket. So if the car would get above a certain degree the back windows roll down, a fan kicks in to blow hot air out, the siren and the light bar come on,  and my pager activates.” Four years ago this August the Brown County Sheriff’s K9 Wix died when the K9 heat alarm in a Sheriff’s squad car failed to go off after the air-conditioning went off in the vehicle. It happened while the department was helping out with security at the PGA Championship in Kohler.
