A Fond du Lac woman who took financial advantage of the 97-year-old woman she was taking care of has been sentenced to eight months in jail. Fifty-four-year-old Margaret Meyers was recently sentenced in Fond du Lac County court to the jail term and ordered to pay $27,000 in restitution plus $1,000 a month. Charges were filed against her early last year after a credit union where the older woman kept her money reached out to a social worker and reported Meyers was cashing $750 checks twice a week from the victim’s account. According to the criminal complaint the social worker found similar discrepancies in the victim’s other financial accounts. As part of her sentence Meyers will not be allowed to care for anyone over the age of 60.
