Bullying Report

24 July 2019 News

The superintendent of the Ripon Area School District says the importance of an annual bullying report is making sure that incidents are reported and addressed. A report for the recent school year saw reports down from 65 to 62 although the 40 confirmed reports of bullying were up from 30 in the previous year. District Superintendent Mary Whitrock says there is no magic number they want to get down to because they don’t want to suppress reports. Whitrock says they do get reports about cyberbullying as well. She says the internet and social media is a tool, but like any tool can be misused. “I’ve heard my own kids say you know Mom it’s so hard there are just times when you wish you didn’t have to deal with it. And yet it is this amazing connection with your friends and your teens and how you communicate and keep pulse with what is going on so.” She says when it comes to reports of bullying they want to make sure students, parents, staff and administrators have support through the process.
