The Brewers were off Monday but will open a road trip at Houston tonight. Freddy Peralta, 3-2, starts for Milwaukee against the Astros Brad Peacock, who’s 5-3. First pitch is at 7:10 and the game can be heard on AM1100/98.3FM, WISS. The Brewers enter the game a half-game ahead of the Cubs.
In the N.L. Central on Monday, the Cardinals beat the Marlins 4-1, the Braves over Pittsburgh 13-7, and the Rockies edged the Cubs 6-5. The Reds were off.
The Golden State Warriors held off the Toronto Raptors 106-105 Monday night to force a sixth game in the NBA Finals. Steph Curry led the Warriors with 31 points and Klay Thompson added 26. Kawhi Leonard led the Raptors with 26 points. Kevin Durant returned after being out for more than a month. He scored 11 points before re-injuring his right achilles. The Raptors still lead 3-2 as the series shifts back to Golden State Thursday night.
Brook Lopez and Khris Middleton will participate in USA Basketball’s Men’s National Team training camp from Aug. 5-9 in Las Vegas. The 20-man roster for training camp will be used to select the finalists for the 12-man 2019 USA World Cup Team that will participate in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 that tips-off on Aug. 31 in China. Milwaukee is one of just three teams (Houston and Portland) to have multiple players selected to the USA National Team roster for training camp.
The Green Bay Packers have signed TE Jace Sternberger. General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced the transaction Monday. Sternberger is is 6’4 and 251 and played his college career at Texas A & M. He was a third-round pick in this years draft. The Packers have now signed all of their draft picks. Minicamp is set to begin today.
Four-time NBA champion Tony Parker has announced he’s retiring after 18 seasons. The 37-year-old guard said on Twitter Monday that it was an emotional decision and that it has been an “incredible journey.” He played 17 seasons for the San Antonio Spurs and made the postseason every year of his career before joining the Hornets last season and missing the playoffs. He was selected to the All-Star team six times and was named second-team All-NBA three times.
