FDL County Board Considering Resolution Recommended By Board Of Health
The Fond du Lac County Board tonight will consider a recommendation from the Board of Health to pass an advisory resolution that requests the state legislature end the use of personal conviction waivers for school and daycare immunizations. The board of health vote was six to nothing on their resolution. It would support State Representative Gordon Hintz’s bill that would repeal the personal convictions waiver on vaccines. County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says the resolution the Board of Health passed is about showing support for ending the personal convictions waiver. Mueller says the effect of not allowing parents to opt out of vaccines would give health officials more of an opportunity to fully protect the residents of the county. There are now over 1,040 measles cases in more than 28 states. The county board meets tonight at 6 pm at the City-County Government Center in Fond du Lac.

Farm Transfers
Waushara County Agricultural Agent Ken Williams says it takes quite a bit of thought and planning to transfer ownership of a farm whether it is remaining in the family or going to someone new. “You’re talking a lot of investment in farms. Most farmers they work their whole life and that’s basically their life savings in the farm, so they want be real careful when they do a farm transfer or look at their options as they are nearing retirement.” He says farmers need to be covered and have a good source of income for their retirement. Williams recommends having a good tax attorney to work with them. He says options to consider include keeping the farm in the family, working with a program that matches them up with someone that will take over the farm or selling it.
