Barlow Park Loop To Be Discussed

The Ripon Common Council tonight will discuss whether to remove the Barlow Park Loop. It’s something the Council is bringing back following action at a March 12th meeting in which they closed the loop for child drop off and pick up at Barlow Park Elementary. According to a letter from Police Chief Bill Wallner to the Council since then they have only issued 2 verbal warnings and one written warning for violation of the new rules. Chief Wallner does not feel any further action including removal of the loop is necessary for compliance. The Council will also discuss a proposal to create a Public Works Committee and if the recycling charge for the upcoming year should be placed on the property tax. The Council meets at 7 pm at the Council Chambers of the City Hall.

Waupun Madison Street Information Meeting

The City of Waupun will host a public information meeting on Thursday, June 20th to present the preliminary engineering plan for improvements to Madison Street. The meeting is from 5:30 to 7 pm at the Waupun City Hall with a brief presentation at 5:45 pm. The project begins at Doty Street and extends north to Lincoln Street. Additional utility work and sidewalk construction may be completed from the Waupun Utilities facility located south of Libby Street to Doty Street.

Berlin Teams Wins Mercury Marine National Walleye Tournament

The winning team in the Mercury Marine National Walleye Tournament this past weekend in Fond du Lac were a father and son team from Berlin. Over the two-days of the tournament Kurt and Matthew Stobbe caught fish weighing a total of just over 36 pounds. Jon Janiak of Fond du Lac and Jim Demboski of North Fond du Lac came in second with a little over 35 pounds of fish. Third place went to Korey and Karl Sprengel of Beaver Dam whose fish weighed over 33 pounds. The grand prize winners won $4,000 in cash an 18-foot boat and 150 horsepower Mercury outboard motor.

Tariffs Worrisome For Farmers

President Trumps proposed tariff increases will impact farmers. Trump backed off proposed increased tariffs for Mexico. Waushara County Agricultural Agent Ken Williams says Canada and Mexico get a lot of our corn crop and dairy. “When you hit export markets and put tariffs on it does effect our ability to move these products out. When you at the history of our exports and imports Ag has pretty much been the one that has been running in the black.” Williams says if farmers can’t export their product they will look for new things to grow like hemp, but getting started could be costly and you don’t know what the market is for it yet.

Ripon Health Expo

The Ripon Senior Activity Center will host a Health Services Expo on Thursday, June 20th from 3 to 6 pm. Center Director Noreen Johnson says it’s a free event and you do not have to RSVP to attend. “It’s an afternoon expo showcasing a variety of affordable and dependable services for person over 50 so it is not just for seniors, people over 50.” Twenty-four different vendors will be attending with information about services for seniors, Medicaid and Nursing Home Planning, Therapy and Rehab, Hearing, Senior Living Facilities, a Food Pantry and more. There will also be give away items, food, and door prizes.

Bigs Needed For Big Brothers Big Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Fond du Lac County has a need for “Bigs” or those who can be a Big Brother or Big Sister to a little. They need people across the county who can act as “Bigs.” Rae Nell Halbur of Big Brothers says it’s not that difficult to become someone’s “Big.” People thing that its Rocket Science that you need to be really rich or you need to have a powerful job or you are way to busy. It’s none of those things. We have a plethora of people that are “Bigs” and are “Bigs” for many, many, many years.” There are currently over 70 “Littles” waiting for a match. Blood Center Awards Scholarships And Gallon Grads Status

The Community Blood Center in Appleton has awarded $23,000 in scholarships to graduating high school seniors and has granted 205 graduating seniors with the status of Gallon Grad. The scholarships were awarded to 35 students from 24 high schools. This year 35 high schools had Gallon Grads or graduating seniors who donated over a gallon of blood during their high school years. Among the high schools in the area with Gallon Grads were; Berlin, Lourdes High School of Oshkosh, Oshkosh North and West High Schools, Princeton, Waupaca and Wautoma. Schools with scholarship winners included Lourdes High School. The Community Blood Center supplies life-saving blood and platelets to hospitals in Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

Packers Vendor Hosting Hiring Event At Lambeau

You could earn some extra cash and watch and experience a Green Bay Packer’s game inside Lambeau Field at the same time. Delaware North Sportservice, the food, and beverage partner of the Packers, is hosting a hiring event at the Johnsonville Tailgate Village just outside Lambeau Field from 5-7pm tonight. Qualified applicants will receive job offers immediately. Employment opportunities include game day supervisors, concession stand attendants, beer vendors, cooks, dishwashers, and restaurant staff.
