Hearing Scheduled For Sailboat Joyride Suspect
A preliminary hearing is scheduled in Sheboygan County court this Wednesday for the homeless man who took a $400,000 sailboat for a joyride. Fifty-one-year-old Matthew Wilson had been kicked out of a Salvation Army Shelter and came across the boat, which had the keys in it. According to court documents when he was arrested he told the officers “it was a beautiful ride.” He’s charged with felony theft and criminal damage to property.
Ripon Common Council Preview
Ripon’s Common Council tonight will act on several ordinances that grew out of previous Council discussions over the past month. Since the City is longer accepting waste oil at its Compost Center that will require amending an ordinance. To create a Public Works Committee the Council will have to repeal and recreate an ordinance. The Council will also consider an ordinance that would put the cost of residential recycling collection on the property tax, which will add about $42 to $45 to residents’ property taxes. The Council meets at 7 pm in the Council Chambers of City Hall.
Official Continues To Promote Being Vaccinated Against The Measles
Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says she will continue to preach vaccination as long as the current measles outbreak is a problem in the U.S. Nearly 1,050 cases have been reported in 28 states, but Wisconsin so far has avoided being one of them. “We’re lucky here in Wisconsin that we don’t have a case yet. I think Minnesota also still doesn’t have a case. But really like I mentioned before it is not if, but when. And so kind of what are we going to do to help prepare to make sure they we are as protected as a community can be.” She says in addition to make sure you are vaccinated, if you were vaccinated when you were younger make sure you have the records to prove that in case you ever end up being quarantined with others who may have the measles.
State Highway 82 Closure In Marquette County
A portion of State Highway 82 in Marquette County will be closed this week. Specifically State Highway 82 at the railroad crossing on the east side of Oxford between Abbott and Depot Streets will be closed. The closure is today through Friday and began this morning. There will be a signed detour.
Time Limit For Disaster Loan Program
The U-S Small Business Administration is reminding private non-profit organizations that they have until July 18th to submit applications for the Economic Injury Disaster Loan program. Those organizations can include food kitchens, homeless shelters, museums and schools. The loans are available in 14 counties that saw the worst of the storm damage from the weather last August and September. Included in those counties are: Adams, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, and Marquette.
Breakfast Helps Fund Agricultural Education Event
Events like yesterday’s Breakfast on the Farm at the Ron and Mary Loehr Farm in Eden help to fund agricultural education programs in classrooms in Fond du Lac County. Amy Ries is the Director of Agricultural Programs for Envision Greater Fond du Lac. She says it’s a free program and she is one of the Agricultural Ambassadors that present the program in the classrooms. “Which allow two people to go into the classrooms during the school year from grades preschool through fifth grade and we take the time, we present a 45 minute class to students about how important Agriculture is in Wisconsin.” About 4,000 people attend the annual Breakfast on the Farm put on by the Envision Greater Fond du Lac Agri-Business Council.
