Orlando Arcia hit a three-run homer and the Milwaukee Brewers avoided a three-game sweep with a 4-2 win over the Seattle Mariners on Thursday.  Chase Anderson (4-2) bounced back after he allowed six runs in his previous start. Anderson allowed two runs, one earned, and struck out six in 5 1/3 innings. He also kicked off a four-run fourth inning with an RBI sac bunt with the bases loaded. Arcia followed and slammed Mike Leake’s next pitch to right for a three-run homer before Leake retired Yasmani Grandal to end the inning. Leake (7-7) allowed four runs, eight hits and a walk while striking out five over six innings.  Matt Albers and Junior Guerra got Milwaukee through the seventh without further damage and Josh Hader earned his 19th save of the season, striking out three batters over two scoreless innings.  Tim Beckham and Daniel Vogelbach hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the sixth for Seattle.

Centerfielder Lorenzo Cain was back in Milwaukee’s lineup Thursday, two days after receiving a cryogenic treatment on his ailing right thumb, but batted sixth instead of his usual leadoff spot — where Yasmani Grandal has been performing well of late. Manager Craig Counsell said he plans to move Cain back into that spot but wants to make sure he’s playing at full strength.

Pro Football Hall of Famer Jerry Kramer threw out the first pitch. Kramer won five NFL championships, including the first two Super Bowls, with the Green Bay Packers.

The Brewers will send Jhoulys Chacin (3-8, 5.88 ERA) against the Pirates Chris Archer (3-6, 5.56) in the opener of a three-game series at Miller Park.  First pitch is at 7:10 and the game can be heard on AM1100/98.3 FM, WISS.

Elsewhere in the N.L. Central on Thursday, Pittsburgh blanked Houston 10-0 and the Cubs beat Atlanta 9-7.  The Cubs maintained their one game lead over the Brewers in the division.

The votes from the first-ever Google MLB All-Star Starters Election have been tallied. Fans around the country have spoken, voting Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich into the starting lineup for the 2019 MLB All-Star Game, which will take place on Tuesday, July 9 at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio. This marks the second career All-Star nod and first All-Star Game start for Yelich, who finished as the top vote-getter in the National League, garnering 930,577 votes during the 28-hour period that ran from 11 a.m. CT yesterday until 3 p.m. CT this afternoon. Cody Bellinger of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Ronald Acuña Jr. of the Atlanta Braves will join him in the outfield to start the game, with the alignment to be determined by Dave Roberts, the manager of the NL All-Star team. Yelich becomes the first member of the Crew to start in the Midsummer Classic since 2014, when three earned spots in the starting lineup: Carlos Gómez (left field), Jonathan Lucroy (catcher) and Aramis Ramirez (third base).

The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders ended their three-game losing streak by beating the Madison Mallards 11-5 in Madison.  The Dock Spiders are back home tonight, hosting the Mallards.  First pitch is at 6:35.

The U.S Women’s Soccer Team continues World Cup play today with a quarterfinal match against France.  The U.S. advanced by beating Spain 2-1 while France scored in extra time to beat Brazil, 2-1.
