Barlow Park Charter School Grant Accepted

20 June 2019 News

The Ripon Area School Board this week approved acceptance of an $800,000 grant for the Barlow Park Elementary Charter School. District Superintendent Mary Whitrock says the five-year grant will allow them to collaborate with and train staff to establish the framework around the competency and play-based elementary school. The charter school will be for Kindergarteners through 2nd graders. Whitrock says instead of treating all students the same they can teach at a student’s pace.“And in the past, you had to move into a remedial program or you needed to be part of the gifted and talented program to grade accelerate or subject- accelerate. We’re really excited that that flexibility is going to be in the hands of the teachers in partnership with our parents.” She says unlike the virtual charter school they already know who their teachers and students will be. The School Board approved accepting the grant by a 7 to 1 vote.
